The Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday approved the proposal of Department of Telecom (DoT) to proliferate Broadband through Public Wi-Fi networks under the framework of the Prime Minister’s Wi-Fi Access Network Interface (PM-WANI).
The Department of Telecommunications, in a release, stated that the PM-WANI Framework facilitates ease of doing business and encourages local shops and small establishments to become Wi-Fi Hotspot providers Public Data Office (PDO).
It stated that the local shops and small establishments as PDOs may earn extra income from selling the internet without any requirement of license, registration and/or any fees to DoT.
DoT NE LSA unit is proposing to organize the next virtual meet on PM-WANI on Thursday for increased awareness of all existing and prospective stakeholders, it mentioned.
Interested existing/prospective PDOs/PDOAs/citizens may submit their willingness to join along with suggestions/feedback at email ID ‘jtomanipur-nelsa-dot@gov.in’, it informed, adding that the link for the meet will be shared with all interested participants in due course.
