MIYC coordinator T Parijat Singh, in a release, condemned the recent brutal murder of an innocent civilian allegedly by Kuki militants in Jiribam District on Thursday and said that the same is a grave challenge to the Meiteis. It pointed out that the militants have burned 80 houses and properties including temples, Jirimukh Police Outpost, Chhotobekra Police Outpost and Goakhal Forest Beat Office.

It went on to say that the Indian security forces are allegedly conspiring with the Kukis to turn Jiribam into a Kuki-occupied part of Manipur instead of saving the lives and properties of the people. The Kukis who are launching unprovoked attacks not only against the Meiteis but to various tribes must be declared as a ‘criminal tribe’, MIYC said.

It recalled the string of horrific attacks by Kuki militants on May 3 against the Meiteis in which several innocents were killed, houses burned, properties destroyed and many forcibly displaced. It maintained that following the outbreak of the conflict a peace committee was formed on May 5, 2023 by various communities residing in Jiribam, which lasted until recently till June 5.

The war waged by Kukis against Manipur is ethnic cleansing, genocide and war crime, it stated. It further accused the India Government of involvement in the war. MIYC also urged the human rights organisations in the State not to remain silent on the issue but help reach it to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the United Nations.
