The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) on Friday alleged that the present conflict was a ‘proxy war’ instigated by the Central government using Chin-Kuki narco terrorists to dismantle the state of Manipur.
“The Centre has completely disregarded the fundamental rights of Manipuri people and thrown their pleas aside. The state government needs to recognise the plot so as the people,” the committee stated.
Speaking to the media at COCOMI office, Imphal, COCOMI coordinator Thokchom Somorendro stated that both the previous and present state government had completely disregarded the lives and rights of the people in their quest for vested geopolitical pursuits.
“It is the responsibility of the union government to protect the Manipuris as rightful Indian citizens,” he said.
Meanwhile, COCOMI spokesman Khuraijam Athouba highlighted the proceedings which unfolded during the 55th session of the Human Rights Council which took place from February 26 to April 5.
“This is the second time Manipur has taken part in the session during the span of the conflict. We tried to put forth verified information regarding the Manipur violence,” he said.
He stated that the impact of the conflict in Myanmar on Manipur was also laid out during the session.
“Cross border activities such as illicit drug trafficking, poppy plantation and narco funded terrorism were also highlighted,” he said. He stated that the Manipuri delegates strongly emphasised that the present conflict was a proxy war waged using SoO groups.
