Protests demanding to safeguard territorial integrity of Manipur continue

Members of Chirom Leikai Nupee Lamjing Lup, Chirom Shakhitombi and Ngangom Sanamu condemned the sufferings caused by the prevailing communal riot.

Protests demanding to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur continue unabated with members of Chaokhat Khongthang Nupi Lamjing Lup and Youth Convention, Singjamei Chirom Leikai along with many womenfolk of the locality on Wednesday staging a sit-in at Singjamei.

Speaking to the media, members of Chirom Leikai Nupee Lamjing Lup, Chirom Shakhitombi and Ngangom Sanamu condemned the sufferings caused by the prevailing communal riot. They expressed discontentment over the state government for allegedly remaining a mute spectator despite escalating violence.

They also mentioned that the villagers in the peripheral areas are remaining in constant fear for their lives, of being attacked by Kuki militants owing to lack of security forces. Protesters urged the Government to take immediate effective actions to resolve the crisis and restore normalcy in the state.

Meanwhile, similar protest was also organised by Leimarol Apunba Lup and CLSWO, Chingamakhong Chongtham Leikai at Singjamei. Taking part in the sit-in, Advisor of Leimarol Apunba Lup, Naoroibam Somola hit out at the government for allegedly remaining silent over the prevailing tense situation in the state. How is the government planning to end the hardships and sufferings facing the innocent people, she questioned.

Somola condemned the atrocities carried out by suspected Kuki militants with alleged help from Assam Rifles and demanded the withdrawal of SoO truce with Kuki militants and Assam Rifles from Manipur. She also urged the government to do the needful to safeguard the people and the state’s integrity.

Various placards which read ‘Go Back Assam Rifles’, ‘Stop Attacking Villagers by Kuki Militants’, ‘GOI should control Kuki Militants’, ‘Immediate NRC, Need of the Hour’, ‘Long Live Manipur’, ‘No separate Administration in Manipur’ etc. were displayed during the protests.
