Locals staged a sit-in protest at the community hall of Sangaithel Makha Leikai in Imphal West on Thursday, demanding a strict inquiry against the alleged suicide commited by 19 year-old-woman at Sangaithel in Imphal West
The protesters alleged that Thoibi committed suicide due to her husband’s atrocity committed on her.
It is reported that N ongbi Abema alias Thoibi, 19, wife of N Sanathoi of Jiribam Begra Durgapur who had been currently residing at a rented house in Sangaithel was found hanging at the rented house on February 7.
Sangaithel Makha Leikai Meira Paibi secretary Samchetsabam Sana said that the locals of Sangaithel consider domestic violence as a challenge to women’s society.
She questioned whether they can lodge an FIR and conduct an inquiry even if the post mortem report has not arrived yet. She demanded proper investigation into the case.
The state government’s apathy to the case will compel the Meira Paibis to intensify the agitation, she added.
