Giving a clarion call upon the Manipur government to initiate emergency steps to restore normalcy in Manipur, residents of Singjamei under the aegis of Singjamei Apunba Lup (SAL), a conglomerate of 26 clubs of Singjamei area staged a sit-in protest on Sunday at Singjamei Oinam Thingel in Imphal West.
The protesters also observed a two-minute silence as a mark of solidarity to those who passed away in the communal violence in the state.

The protesters held slogans which read, ‘We want solution’; ‘United we stand, divide we fall’; ‘Stop killing innocent people’ and ‘Stop burning houses’ among others.
SAL chairman Biren Singh told the media that the ongoing conflict between the two (communities) have claimed many lives and led to destruction of properties, including houses.
The government should act and back normalcy at the earliest, he added.
