Prizes for state level exhibition distributed

The closing cum prize distribution ceremony of the five-day long 42nd State level Science, Mathematics and Environment Exhibition for Children 2022-23 under the theme Technology and Toys was held at Ram Lal Paul Higher Secondary School on Thursday.

The event had been organised by the Science Unit of the state department of Education. The exhibition was held from November 7 to November 12 at Ram Lal Paul Higher Secondary School.

Consolation prizes, cash awards and certificates were also distributed to participants and students who secured top spots in the exhibition. Speaking on the occasion, Educational(S) commissioner Gyan Prakash stated that the experimental projects displayed by the students in the exhibition would be tremendously useful in the future.

“Applying what we learn in the classroom is the very foundation for education in the modern age. Retention of facts and knowledge through table study is a very outdated model of education,” he said.

He stated that application of the scientific principles in the projects would aid in boosting the knowledge of students and its retention.

“Such exhibitions play a crucial role in such instances. It is important for both the students and teachers alike,” he said. He appealed to all the teachers to encourage their students and help them expand their knowledge by encouraging them to participate in such exhibitions and other educational programmes.

He also informed that 15 students from the exhibition would be selected to participate in the 15th National Level exhibition which will be held at Maharashtra soon.

Irashini Laiphrakpam of Diligent Public School, Bishnupur secured the 1st prize while Sorokhaibam Estina Chanu of Oinam Government Higher Secondary School, Bishnupur Zone 4 and Suryadita Kangabam of Victory High School, Kakching secured 2nd and 3rd spots respectively.

Teachers who mentored the students were also awarded Best Teacher Guide and State Best Teacher Guide during the ceremony. Education (S) director L Nandakumar, Education (S) deputy director Manglem Gangmei and Adult Education (S) director Bisheshor Khwairakpam along with several teachers and students from various institutions were present at the event.
