Police Control Room, Manipur Police on Friday stated that security forces and forest officials carried out a poppy destruction drive along Sihai hill range, Ukhrul district during which around 15 acres of illicit poppy plantation were destroyed along with destruction of associated huts.
During the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was tense but under control with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of protestors, stated a release.
Search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal East and Thoubal district, it mentioned.
It further stated that the movement of 122 and 78 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-2 respectively with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.
A total of 142 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 214 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the State, it mentioned.
Appeal is made to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos, it stated. It further appealed to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
