Armed miscreants ambushed a team of Manipur Police near Lokchao village of Moreh sub-division under Tengnoupal district along the Indo-Myanmar highway on Thursday.
Police reported that the incident took place between Lokchao and Khudengthabi at around 5 pm while a team of Manipur Police led by an additional superintendent of police (Ops) deputed at Moreh was coming back from Pallel police station after handing over a drug smuggler who was apprehended by 20 Assam Rifles from Tengnoupal Motor Vehicle check post along with drugs.
The drug smuggler was apprehended by Assam Rifles along with 40,000 WY tablets.
Cross-firing occurred between the two sides at Lokchao village. The security forces dominated the area and while conducting a search operation in the area. A few live rounds of 303 rifles, one 0.32 pistol, and some ammunition were recovered.
During the incident, no injury has been reported from state police.
Recently, the curfew relaxation at Moreh town was suspended due to the likely outcome of violence in the border town.
