A 35-year-old woman from Konchak Mayang Imphal, Imphal West, Manipur alleged Mayang Imphal police of refusing to take her complaints on several occasions after she was allegedly assaulted.
In a press meet held at Manipur Press Club on Tuesday, Nameirakpam Luxmibai, a resident of Mayang Imphal Konchak Mamang Leikai, said that the police ignored her when she went to lodge a complaint, citing late hours.
“I believe corruption is involved, and my complaint was ignored,” she added. She emphasised that the Mayang Imphal Police should have taken her report seriously and held those responsible accountable.
Nameirakpam Luxmibai alleged that she was brutally assaulted by one Mongjam Kamal, and the local law enforcement has refused to lodge any complaint against the person. The incident occurred on April 30, when she confronted Kamal about trespassing on her farm, she said.
Her family had previously warned Kamal against entering their farm without permission due to the presence of numerous fish in their pond, she said.
On April 30, Luxmibai’s mother-in-law spotted Kamal in the farm again and called Luxmibai to address the issue. Later, Mongjam Kamal came to her home, and when he realized that Luxmibai’s husband was not home, he reacted violently, she said.
“When he knew that my husband was not there, he started pushing me. He assaulted me, punching my face until I was bleeding,” Luxmibai recounted. She was hospitalised due to her injuries, with doctors noting that she had lost a significant amount of blood and her blood pressure was dangerously low.
She was admitted to Raj Medicity for further treatment at Raj Medicity. Luxmibai alleged that she “was not allowed to meet her family and was instead attended to by someone from Kamal’s family.”
Furthermore, she alleged that “the doctors at Raj Medicity were in communication with Mongjam Kamal’s family.”
Mongjam Kamal, around 30 years old, is the son of Mongjam Ramo and Mongjam Shanti of Kongchak Mamang Leikai, Mayang Imphal. According to Luxmibai, there was initial reluctance from the hospital to allow her family to visit, and instead, someone was assigned to take care of her.
Efforts to file a police complaint were unsuccessful, she said. “He should be punished for his actions,” she insisted, urging the authorities to take necessary steps to ensure justice is served.
