Construction of road between Galkapkot and Gamhui village in Thanlon sub-division, Churachandpur under PMGSY has resumed after the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) inspected it and Chief Engineer/EO, RED/MSRRDA issued a show-cause notice to contractor M Dama Vaiphei, to explain why FIR should not be filed against him.

A group of news correspondents from Churachandpur on Friday visited the site where dozens of heavy-duty trucks, road rollers and workers are working round the clock to finish the work by January 2023. It was also found that WBM-level work was completed at 4 km stretch of the road and bitumen was stocked and all machinery was in place to finish the work by the deadline at the two portions of the road.

It may be mentioned as per request by the Gangte Tribe Council, the MPCC President visited the road on October 31, 2022 and made a complaint to the concerned authorities where he also said that the contractor of the 17 km long road, who had submitted a completion report and withdrew all of Rs 8.29 crores, should be sent to jail if he does not complete the work.

The Special Contractor, Dama Vaiphei, who was also at the work site, when asked, said that as he had been sick lately besides head operations and Covid infections, he could not continue the work. But now that a January 2023 deadline has been given, he will complete the work by then, the contractor said.

Dama Vaiphei also said that even at the cost of losing, he will finish the work and lamented that the rock or ballast was procured from 45 km distance, which means an up and down trip of 90 kms. This also means that the spending will be over Rs 10 crore, which is above the sanctioned amount, he added.

The villagers of the area have expressed happiness with the development with the chief of  Muikot village, Lama stating that they are happy that MPCC president Megachandra inspected and spoke to the concerned authorities leading to the resumption of work.
