PM Modi congratulates Manipur as Kangla Nongpok Thong reopens

The Kangla Nongpok Thong was inaugurated on Friday by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to Manipur.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated Manipur as the state reopened the ‘Kangla Nongpok Thong‘, the eastern gate of Kangla.

It has been foretold in the ancient chronicles of Manipur Puyas that reopening of Kangla Nongpok Thong will bring peace and prosperity in the state.

Reacting to a tweet posted by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday, PM Modi tweeted, "Congrats Manipur! May the spirit of peace, prosperity and happiness be enhanced across the state."

On Friday, CM Biren tweeted, "The opening of Kangla Nongpok Thong has a very important cultural significance. This Eastern Gate of Kangla is considered to be the pathway to peace, prosperity and happiness for the people of Manipur. As promised we have finally opened KANGLA NONGPOK THONG."  

CM Biren extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their advice, assistance and guidance.

"Manipur has enjoyed excellent governance for the past few years, with peace, unity and progress rather than bandhs and blockades. I'm immensely grateful to the Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji & the Hon'ble HM @AmitShah Ji for their advice, assistance and guidance," Biren Singh replied to the Prime Minister's tweet.

The Kangla Nongpok Thong, built over the Imphal River was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to the state on Friday. Inaugurating the bridge, the home minister prayed that it will bring more peace, prosperity and unity.

"Inaugurated the historic ‘Kangla Nongpok Thong‘ (Kangla Eastern Bridge) in Imphal. It was destroyed during colonial rule, there is a belief that due to its closure Manipur has suffered a lot. May the re-opening of this sacred bridge bring more peace, prosperity and unity," Amit Shah tweeted on Friday.

On Friday, Home Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation stones of nine schemes worth Rs 1,060 crore and inaugurated 12 schemes worth Rs 300 crore. Amit Shah inaugurated the Manipur Olympian Park; Sangaithel Fruit Preservation Factory (MAGFRUIT), Nilakuthi; Paid Private Ward at JNIMS; Churachandpur Medical College (State Component); Moreh Town Water Supply Scheme; Nongpok Thong Bridge at Eastern Side of Kangla, Imphal; Infrastructure Development of DM University; Marjing Statue Complex; Development of Cave Tourism Project at Kangkhui Cave; Model Residential School at LM Block, Ukhrul; 100 bedded Residential School, Rengpang; and Pediatric Cardio Thoracic Operation Theatre at RIMS Campus.

Apart from the inauguration union home minister also laid the foundation stones of Manipur Exhibition Centre, Imphal East; District Youth, Skilling and Employment Centres in five Districts; Construction of Jiribam-Tipaimukh Road; Strengthening of Road from Serou Lamkhai to Salluk Village via Chakpikarong; Construction of 40 Police Outposts (34 along Indo-Myanmar International Border and 6 along NH-37); Integrated Management of 3 Water Bodies/Wetland (Utra Pat, Zaimeng, Waithou-Phumnom); Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme; Bharat Net Project/Capital Project on OFC Network under Scheme for Capital Investment (SACI); and PM Gati Shakti Projects under Scheme for Capital Investment (SACI).
