A devastating fire destroyed the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Thoubal Division office, late Friday night around 11.30 under the jurisdiction of Thoubal Police Station. The caretaker of the office narrowly escaped the blaze.
According to reports, the fire completely destroyed six rooms, including the offices of the Executive Engineer, Assistant Engineer, Section Officer, and other official rooms. Among the items destroyed were iron Godrej almirahs, official record documents, and the caretaker’s personal room.
The caretaker, who was asleep at the time, woke up around 11.30 pm upon hearing noises and discovered the fire.
He managed to escape narrowly and promptly informed the staff and the Thoubal fire department. The fire service team arrived quickly at the scene and managed to control the blaze.
While the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, it is believed to have started due to a short circuit.
