Peace rally at Khoupum calls for end to bloodshed

A peace rally at Khoupum in Noney district, Manipur on Tuesday by women has called for an end to bloodshed among arm groups.

The rally was jointly organised by Rongmei Luphuam Khoupum, Khoupum Area Village Authority Council (KAVAC) and Zeliangrong Students Union Khoupum Area (ZSUKA).

Speaking to the media, Kacheaklu Gonmei, general secretary of Rongmei Luphuam, Khoupum said that the purpose of the rally is to promote a peaceful environment in Khoupum area, particularly in Zeliangrong region and Nagalim.

She called for a halt in operation and an end to bloodshed among arm groups.

“Youths, the future of our nation have perished while no understanding has arrived among us”, she said.

“Our humble request is to stop killing our brethren of the same blood. Unity is our motto even as we see fights at all levels, be it community, state and nation,” she said, adding that love, forgiveness and children will be retained again in the society.

The rally started from Gaidimjang-1 and after they reached Khoupum Dam the rally returned from Taosiamjang and Duithanjang Road and ended at Thanagong Playground.
