Patient attempts to jump from hospital building in Imphal

A patient from Bishnupur district who was admitted at JNIMS for treatment allegedly tried to commit suicide on Tuesday.

A patient lodged at the Medicine Ward of JNIMS Hospital, Porompat in Imphal East district, attempted to jump from the second floor of the hospital building at around 9 am on Tuesday, sources said.

The patient, a 38-year-old male from Phubala in Bishnupur district is said to be a habitual drinker and had been admitted at JNIMS, Bed No 11 of Medicine Ward on the second floor, since the past three days for treatment, the sources said.

As he attempted to jump from the building, others saying at the hospital saw him and stopped him from allegedly committing suicide. He was reportedly heard shouting ‘Let me die alone!’ repeatedly while he was being rescued, the sources said.   

After being rescued, the patient has been reportedly shifted to the Psychiatric Ward, the sources added.
