IMPHAL: The Peoples’ Action for National Democratic Movement (PANDM) has warned of actions against shops hiking prices of essential commodities amid the tough times facing the people owing to the prevalent crisis in the state.
A team of the association carried out a surprise checking at Thangal Bazar and Masjid Road area in Paona Bazar on Tuesday, assisted by the City Police, according to a release from PANDM.
During the drive, the team came across several shops at the area selling essential commodities at rectified rates, compared to the original prices, it said.
Expressing discontentment over the same, the team warned against illegal hoarding of items which will cause scarcity. It urged against hiking of prices of the products which were kept in stock even before the crisis occurred, the release mentioned.
The team also urged the retailers not to overpay for the products as the same is followed by the wholesale shops, thereby affecting the local shops prompting them to sell the items at even higher rates to the locals, it added.
The Association called upon the Food Safety team under Medical Department to conduct surprise checking and take appropriate actions accordingly, the release mentioned.
PANDM reiterated its warning to the shops to immediately stop such activities and said that the Association will continue carrying out similar drives, in which take stern actions will be taken if any shops were found involved in the same, it stated.
It further urged businessmen, consumers, Police Department and Food Safety Department to extend their support and cooperation towards the same, the release added.
