The Cultural Workers And Activists Forum, Manipur (CWAF), an apex body of the cultural organisations of the state, has condoled the sudden demise of renowned theatre director Padma Shri Awardee Wareppa Naba.
President of the forum Budha Chingtham recalled the great contribution made by Naba towards Manipuri folk theatre during the last 50 years during a condolence meeting held at Haobam Marak Irom Leikai. The condolence meeting also observed a one-minute silence as a mark of respect for the departed soul and shared the sorrow of the bereaved family.
It may be mentioned that Naba, till his last day, served as director of Theatre Mirror and President of the Theatre Centre Manipur, an apex body of Theatre and in recognition of his contribution in the field of Manipuri folk theatre he was honored with State Kala Academy award and Padma award.
The Writers’ Forum, Imphal also extended condolences on the demise of renowned theatre, Shumang Leela and Nata Sankritan personality from Manipur Padma Shri Naba Wareppa at the age of 82 on Sunday morning.
In a message by Writers’ Forum, Imphal president Keisham Priyokumar stated that the members of the forum observed a 2-minute silent tribute to the departed soul of the former life member of the forum Naba Wareppa at its office at Nagapamal Lambam Leikai. The forum also shared the sorrows of the bereaved family, it added.
