The Manipur government has appointed P Somorjit Singh as vice-chairperson of Manipur Food Industries Corporation Ltd with immediate effect and until further orders as per an order issued by Commissioner (TC and I) Pradeep Kumar Jha in the name of the Governor on July 14.

The order has been issued in exercise of powers conferred under Article 71 (1) of the Memorandum and Articles of Association of the Manipur Food Industries Corporation Ltd, it stated.

It may be mentioned that P Somorjit was a former BJP state secretary and had contested the recent Manipur Legislative Assembly election as an Independent candidate from Langthabal assembly constituency in Imphal West.
