Over 90 per cent pharmaceutical stocks deluged: MCDA

Manipur Chemists and Druggists Association (MCDA) on Sunday informed that over 90 per cent of pharmaceutical drug stock had been destroyed as a result of the devastating deluge which doused Imphal since May 28.

Speaking to the media at MCDA office in Imphal, MCDA secretary Thokchom Dijamani highlighted that majority of medicine stocks at several pharmaceutical wholesalers and retailers in greater Imphal have been completely flooded and destroyed.

“Around Rs 15 crore worth of pharmaceuticals have been destroyed but we appeal to the public not to panic as we will take necessary measures to stock-up swiftly,” he said.

On the other hand, he pointed out that transportation of goods and pharmaceuticals were becoming an issue as both national highways had been cut-off due to landslides.

He further emphasized the need for timely government intervention to aid in providing some financial compensation for the losses.

“This would ease some tension for both wholesalers and retailers. We can contact the companies for some of the products but that wouldn’t be enough,” he said.

Meanwhile, MCDA president RK Rakesh stated that MCDA was working diligently to mitigate the impact of the calamity on the medicine supplies and striving to do needful to help the people.
