Over 3,000 BJP workers resign from primary membership in Manipur

The BJP workers of Keishamthong assembly constituency will support independent candidate Nishikant Sapam.

Over 3,000 BJP workers of Keishamthong assembly constituency on Tuesday resigned from the party and showed support for independent candidate Nishikant Sapam for the ensuing Manipur Legislative Assembly election.

Nishikant Sapam was a BJP ticket aspirant of Keishamthong assembly constituency but not named among the selected BJP candidates' list.

Councillor of Keishamthong Ward No XI and XIII Maisnam Joychandra Singh and Oinam Romeo Singh respectively told the media at the office of Team Nishikant located at Thouda Bhabok Leikai, Imphal West that they have resigned from the primary membership of BJP and will support independent candidate Nishikant Sapam for the coming election.

Romeo said he was elected as councillor of Keishamthong Ward number XIII as a BJP candidate. However, after the betrayal of Nishikant Sapam by not including him in the BJP candidate list, he resigned from the party, he said.

Independent candidate Nishikant said that he decided to contest as an independent candidate from the support of his team; however, he was not included in the BJP candidate list for the entire 60 assembly constituency.

He said there are more than 3,500 members in his team and all the members have unanimously decided to resign from the party primary membership.
