The Manipur government has declared that only this coming Saturday, March 30, will be a ‘working day’ for government offices, after the inclusion of Easter Sunday among the working days drew flak and sparked widespread condemnations.
Latest order issued on Thursday by deputy secretary (GAD) Angom Heera Singh stated that only March 30 will be a 'working day' for all government offices including public sector undertakings/corporations/autonomous bodies/ societies under the state government of Manipur for smooth functioning of offices in the last few days of the Financial Year 2023-24.
However, for the remainder of the Financial year 2023-24, all government transactions relating to receipts and payments, through the treasuries and agency banks will continue, it stated.
Earlier on Wednesday, the state government had declared both Saturday and Sunday (March 30 and 31) as working days. Easter Sunday falls on March 31 and the day is Christianity’s most holy day. As per the Bible, Jesus was resurrected and returned to life on Easter Sunday.
