A team of district commando, Imphal East unit seized one lakh tablets marked as WY and arrested a person at around 10 pm from eastern side of Lilong Arapti Thongkhong, Imphal East district on Thursday.
The arrested person has been identified as Phundreimayum Abdul Hadee alias Amu, 35, son of (L) Abdul Gafar Khan of Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai, Thoubal District.
Police reported that Abdul was detained by the team of Imphal East district commando unit led by its officer-in-charge, Kh Henery under the overall supervision of superintendent of police, Imphal East, M Pradip Singh during random frisking and checking conducted in connection with the preventive security measures taken up ahead of Sangai Festival, 2022 at eastern side of Lilong Arapti Thongkhong, Imphal East.
He was detained while coming in a red Maruti 800 car, bearing registration number MN06LA 3217 from the western side of Arapti bridge. On checking the car, the police team detected a gunny bag at the back seat. The team, in the presence of an executive magistrate and civil witness, opened the gunny bag and found 10 brown plastic packets. On opening the 10 plastic packets another 50 plastic packets, blue in colour, were found, suspected to be containing WY tablets.
Each blue colour plastic was found containing 50 tablets each marked as WY, police added.
The detected WY tablets, one mobile phone along with two SIM cards and a sum of Rs 360 were also seized from his possession and Abdul was arrested on the spot.
Later, the arrested person, along with the seizures, were handed over to Irilbung police station for further necessary legal action.
