A team of Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) seized 3 lakhs World is Yours (WY) tablets and approximately 1 kg of Ice drug and arrested one inter-state illicit drug trafficker near Yumsha Chicken Centre, Keishampat, Imphal West on Tuesday.
The arrested person has been identified as one Maibam Deban Singh, 53, son of late M Mitlu of Langthabal Kunja Makha Leikai, Imphal West.
Police said as a part of continuous and surprise frisking and checking in different areas of Manipur to check illicit contraband trafficking of Narcotics and Psychotropic substances the NAB team detained one suspicious vehicle (Tata Truck) bearing registration number NL 01AD 3983 near Yumsha Chicken centre at around 12.40 pm of Tuesday.
The driver of the vehicle identified himself as Deban along with the vehicle was detained. During examination of the vehicle 30 packets containing 3 lakhs suspected WY tablets was found concealed inside the punctured left middle tyre of vehicle.
In follow up action by the same NAB team approximately 1 kg of Ice Drug (crystal Methamphetamine) was found from his residence.
Deban was arrested on the spot and seized the drugs. On preliminary investigation Deban the origin and destination (Assam) of the drug and it is found that the arrested person is a member of inter-state illicit drug trafficking chain.
A case has been registered at NAB police station for further investigation.
