Naga People’s Front, Manipur State Unit (NPF/MSU) president Awangbow Newmai on Thursday dismissed the viral report on social media that his party is withdrawing from the Biren-led government following the outcome of the 18th Lok Sabha Election, 2024 results which was declared on Tuesday.

Clarifying the matter, Awangbow said that the NPF is still supporting the Biren-led BJP government and the post that surfaced on social media stating that NPF has withdrew its support from BJP government is mere rumours.

In the recently declared result of the 18th Lok Sabha Election, the Indian National Congress won both the two seats of Manipur with a huge margin; in the II-Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, the state BJP did not file a candidate but took a stand to support the NPF.

And following the declaration of the poll result, a rumour that the NPF has withdrawn its support from the present government surfaced on social media.

The NPF candidate, Kachui Timothy Zimik, was defeated by the INC candidate, Alfred Kangam Arthur with a huge margin vote of over 70,000 votes in the outer Manipur.

Naga People’s Party is one among the ruling party of BJP-led coalition government with five MLAs.

On Thursday, a post surfaced on social media stating that “NPF Ministers with their MLA to withdraw their support to N, Biren Singh BJP led government in Manipur”; the post quoted its source as ‘Southern Nagalim watsapp group”.

Awangbow Newmai, who is also a cabinet minister of Manipur government, clarified on his official Facebook page stating, “The fake news that went viral today is absolutely false and unfortunate. There is no reason why NPF should withdraw from the N Biren Singh government. We are grateful to BJP leadership for the unwavering support extended to NPF candidate Mr Timothy Zemik during the 18th LS election 2024. We are trying to find out who is responsible for this mischievous rumors. The culprit will be dealt with according to the law of the land”.

BJP Manipur Pradesh vice president Ch Chidananda also said that the post that surfaced on social media regarding withdrawal of support of NPF from Biren led government is a rumour. Instead, the political bonding between BJP and NPF has become more firm at the present, he said.
