The Naga People’s Front (NPF) Manipur unit has called for an end to the blockade along the national highway amid the ongoing unrest in the state, stating that several unwanted incidents have happened and the people have suffered much.
Since May 3, Manipur has been in turmoil, and many unwanted incidents have happened with the people suffering, NPF Manipur Unit president Awangbow Newmai said, while addressing the press at the party’s office at Tarung in Imphal West.
Calling for an end to the blockade along the national highway, the NPF president said that violence will only make things worse and lead to division in the state. All communities, including the 34 tribal communities, should live together, he said.
Since the unrest started, the national highways in the state have been blocked, and there was a report of frisking at the NH. If this continues, things will only get worse, he added.
“Let’s stop initiating more violence, let’s talk about all untoward incidents or anything, and let’s bring peace”, said Awangbow Newmai.
He said violence, destroying properties, and fighting will only harm our own state and affect the economy of the state as well.
In such a situation as this, there will be no use in finding out who is right or wrong or finding the root cause, he said, adding that restoring normalcy is the need of the hour.
