AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik Wasnik on Friday said no effort is seen from the government to restore normalcy in Manipur. It sought efforts from state and the Central governments to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur.

Speaking to the media at Congress Bhawan, Wansik slammed the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister in this critical situation when Manipur is burning and its territorial integrity is at stake.

Usually, a union minister would visit the state at least once in a week but not a single Union minister has visited the state yet since the issue erupted on May 3, he said.

“We have acknowledged the involvement of SoO cadres in the violence. The report will
be submitted to AICC leaders," said Wasnik.

"We do not want to politicise this situation but whatever the shortcomings of the government in dealing with the issue will be pointed out," he added.

The Congress leaders are extremely concerned over the prevailing crisis in Manipur, thereby necessitating the AICC delegation to visit Manipur, he said.

The team is planning to visit Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Khundrakpam assembly constituencies
and taking stock of the ground situation, he added.

Referring to a proverb, ‘When Rome was burning, the emperor was playing his violin’, he accused both the Central and state leaders of the government of being indifferent towards the crisis.

He further lamented that the government is yet to provide the announced compensation to those affected during the violence. Besides, the government has failed to provide relief materials to relief camps, he added.

The AICC leader also appealed to all sections of people to cooperate in restoring peace and harmony in Manipur.

The executive team of the AICC comprising Wasnik, AICC Manipur in charge Bhakta Charan Das, former MP Ajoy Kumar and MPCC team including its president K Meghachandra and CLP leader O Ibobi on Thursday evening called on governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhawan in Imphal and discussed on the prevailing unrest in Manipur.

The AICC team reached Imphal on Thursday along with the MPCC team which recently visited the national capital and apprised their leaders on the present tense situation in Manipur.
