National People's Party (NPP) national president Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday said there is no question of the NPP forming any pre-poll alliance with other political parties in the upcoming assembly election of Manipur, and the party will contest the election by its own terms and ideology.
Sangma was replying to a query raised by the media on the sidelines of the felicitation of intending candidates and their workers who recently joined NPP in a function held at HVS Complex in Imphal West.
Sangma who is also the chief minister of Meghalaya said that the party will consider a post-poll alliance and may look forward to it as per the outcome of the election results.

When questioned about the extension of AFSPA in some parts of Manipur, he replied, “The act is outdated and it definitely needs re-examination.”
“Law and order is important. It needs to be ensured that they are maintained. However, there are lots of other ways and options which we can go into by having different acts and rules,” he added.
Addressing the gathering, Sangma announced that the central office of the NPP will constitute an election committee for Manipur within a couple of days.
The committee will hold in-charge of selecting the party's candidate and other election related procedures, he said, adding the decision taken by the committee will be final.
Speaking about his two-day visit in Manipur and witnessing the public response to the party, Sangma gave his assurance that NPP will be the single largest party which will get an absolute majority in the upcoming election.
The national president also expressed the need for maintaining discipline, team-spirit, sticking to leaders’ decisions, and following democracy among the workers of the party.
Sticking to these ideologies of the party, will help in moving forward and strengthening the party, he added.

Further announcing that a national conference of National People's Youth Front (youth wing of NPP) is scheduled in Manipur on December 10, to discuss the issues of youths of Northeast, Sangma assured that he along with other national leaders of NPP will participate in the conference.
Altogether, three intending candidates and their workers who recently joined NPP were felicitated. They are Konthoujam Sharat of Konthoujam assembly constituency, Mayengbam Ranjit of Wabagai assembly constituency and Maibam Dhanabir of Hiyanglam assembly constituency.
The function was also attended by NPP state president N Kayisii, national vice-president of NPP and deputy CM Y Joykumar, working president of NPP L Jayantakumar, NPP national general secretary (org) Thomas Sangma, Meghalaya MLA Marcuise Marak among others.
Sangma arrived in the state on Monday to discuss the various strategies of the party for fighting the upcoming assembly election and election campaign in Manipur. He will be leaving for Meghalaya today.
