The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Lamphel, on Tuesday condemned the theft of NIT’s construction materials by miscreants who entered the campus by destroying the fencing. The institute also demanded the miscreants involved to stop the misdemeanor immediately.
Speaking to the media at NIT administrative block, NIT Registrar Professor Tomba Khumukcham stated that unknown miscreants broke into the campus fencing and stole bricks and other construction materials.
“NIT is an institute under the union Ministry of Education. The institute covers an overall 341 acres of land out of which the campus occupied 30,000 sq. metre and the rest is fencing,” he said.
He highlighted that construction materials worth around Rs 2.65 crore were kept for infrastructure construction.
“We came to know only today; there were no signs of such incidents when a team from the ministry inspected the site on May 7”, he said.
As such, he appealed to all not to continue such incidents in the future and collectively strive to make the institute a premier educational institution.
