Ningol Chakouba, one of the biggest festivals of Manipur that emphasises on strengthening ties of family especially between a brother and sister, was celebrated across the state on Thursday.
On this day, married women and their children visit their parental home for a grand feast prepared by their parents and brothers. Besides being bestowed with blessings, they are also gifted various items on the day.
However, the festival is also celebrated by many civil society organisations by hosting a grand feast of various communities in different parts of the state where married women from various communities are invited to the feast.
Today, the festival has also transformed into a multi-ethnic event with civil societies hosting Ningol Chakouba feast for non-Meetei womenfolk in different parts of the state.
All Manipur Ethnical Socio-Cultural Organisation (AMESCO) celebrated the festival at Thamlai village, Tengnoupal district.
Social scientist Dhanabir Laishram, attending the celebration, expressed hope of spreading more love between brothers and sisters. He also hoped that one day all communities will celebrate the festival sharing feast with neighbouring villages and communities.
Civil society organisations namely, Indigenous Minority Socio Cultural Organisation Manipur (IMSCOM), Indigenous Minority Organisation Manipur (IMOM), United Peoples' Front (UPF) Manipur, Hao Mee Research Guild Manipur (HRGM), National Identity Protection Council (NIPCO), Manipur Peace And Integrity (MAPI) Council jointly organised 'Ching-Tam Ningol Chakouba' at Ima Ebemma Khunthokhanbi Thougal Marup located near DM College on October 27.
