Nine arrested for burning RAF buses in Manipur

As many as 455 persons have been detained in connection with various violations in different districts of violence-hit Manipur.

The Manipur police have arrested nine individuals, including a juvenile, in connection with the burning of two buses of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) at Sapermeina in Kangpokpi district.

The incident took place on Tuesday when protesters along NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur) set ablaze two buses of the RAF at Sapermeina in Kangpokpi district on Tuesday.

It is reported that a group of protesters at Sapermeina in Kangpokpi district stopped the vehicles of central forces around 6:30 pm to check out if there were Meitei in the buses.

The Manipur Police Control Room on Wednesday informed that nine persons, including a juvenile, have been arrested in the case.

The police also said that they are continuously conducting raids at many suspected hide-outs to arrest the remaining accused persons in the May 4 viral video case. Till now, seven accused persons have been arrested, the police said.

The control room informed that a total of 130 checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and that Police detained 455 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the State.

Movement of 953 vehicles on NH-37 and 246 vehicles on NH-2 with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, the police said.

The police also appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulation of unfounded videos etc may be confirmed from the rumour free number - 9233522822 of Central Control room. Further, an appeal is made to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately, the police said.
