The North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) on Sunday took part in a solidarity demonstration at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi in support of the ongoing Sri Lankan people’s movement.
The event was organised on the occasion of the 100th day of the historic Galle Face Protest in Colombo, which has spearheaded the ‘Janatha Aragalaya’ or people’s struggle in Sri Lanka, stated a release.
Solidarity meets were also organised by NEFIS in Manipur and Assam, it stated.
NEFIS expresses its solidarity with the struggling people of Sri Lanka and their demands that the current acting president Ranil Wickremesinghe should be immediately ousted, and people’s collective power which has emerged during the present struggle should be institutionalised in the form of People’s Assemblies, it mentioned.
The protest which started in Sri Lanka against the current political and economic regime has completely exposed the phenomenon which can be observed worldwide, it further stated.
It should be noted that economic precarity and political chicanery is a phenomenon prevalent across the world, and people’s movements have arisen against the dominant economic classes and the ruling elites, NEFIS stated.
Sri Lankan struggle is an important link in the chain of such struggles around the globe, it mentioned. It symbolizes people’s power to dismantle the dominant anti-people political and economic structures, and stands as an inspiration for the people’s movements worldwide for a society based on equality and social justice, it added.
