Manipur International Youth Centre (MIYC) on Sunday stressed the need to reclaim the Meitei lands occupied by Kuki settlers after the ethnic cleansing of Meiteis from various areas during the recent violence.
Around 1,449 Meitei houses of 19 villages in Churachandpur, 1,030 houses in Kangpokpi and 700 houses in Moreh have been destroyed during the conflict, and no traces have been left of the Meiteis in the said areas, stated a release.
All the houses and every belongings of the Meiteis have been destroyed by using excavators; more than 393 Meitei temples have also been destroyed during the ongoing violence, it added.
It said that Meiteis have been flushed out from certain areas in Kakching, Bishnupur and Imphal East district by forming Zalengam boundary. It alleged that the ethnic cleansing of Meitei was done in the presence of the Central security forces.
The Meiteis have been trying to hold peace talks with Kuki CSOs to end the ethnic violence which erupted on May 3, 2923 but the Kukis took a firm stand not to have any talks with the Meitei community and the Manipur government, it stated. They also decided to move forward in demanding their separate administration, it further stated, adding, their decisions have delayed in reviving peace and normalcy in the state.
