Sanathoiba, who also serves as the director of HLMTTCA, highlighted Thang-Ta’s unique historical significance and its recognition by the Indian government, particularly its inclusion in the Khelo India Games.

He highlighted that Thang-Ta, in its true form, is a martial art crucial for the defense of the Manipur kingdom from external threats.

However, a portion of it has evolved into a sport, adding another layer of value to this well-developed art and culture, he added.

“It is fortunate for the people of Manipur that Thang-Ta is being targeted for upliftment to the international level, with aspirations for its inclusion in the Olympic Games,” Sanathoiba added.
