National Sports University Row: KAJAC to intensify stir, issues ultimatum

If the state government fails to respond to the calls of KAJAC for dialogue, it will be compelled to intensify any forms of democratic agitations, KAJAC stated in a release.

The Konsakhul Area Joint Action Committee on Friday announced that it has been compelled to issue an ultimatum against the state government concerning the “forceful grabbing of tribal land” for construction of the proposed National Sports University (NSU). 

If the state government fails to respond to the calls of KAJAC for dialogue, it will be compelled to intensify any forms of democratic agitations, KAJAC stated in a release issued by its convenor Daichuipou Gangmei.

"Once again, we are constrained to issue an ultimatum to the state government to stop all kinds of construction activities at the NSU project site with immediate effect until the NSU imbroglio is resolved amicably,” KAJAC stated.

The state government shall be held responsible for any untoward incident if occurred during the course of democratic agitation, it added.

KAJAC have tried with their best efforts to resolve the NSU impasse in a peaceful and democratic way by conveying their grievances through memorandum, representation, petition etc. However, the state government has failed to respond to their calls for peaceful settlement till date, it stated.

During the last meeting held on February 25, 2021 at Conference Hall (South Block), Secretariat, Imphal under the chair of YAS Minister Letpao Haokip in the presence of Education Minister Rajen Singh, Forest Minister Awangbow Newmai, MLA H Dingo Singh and MLA Ngamthang Haokip, it was acknowledged in principle that the proposed NSU site belongs to Konsaram (Konsakhul) village under erstwhile Senapati district, Manipur, KAJAC further stated.  

“It was assured that a meeting will be convened by the state government within the month of March, 2021 to settle the NSU matter once and for all. As such, the date and venue of meeting will be intimated to all the stakeholders accordingly,” it claimed.  

However, the state government has failed to keep its words and deliberate attempts had been made to keep the NSU issue in a cold storage, it added.
