National Lok Adalat: 461 of 573 cases amounting to Rs 4.18 crore settled

The Lok Adalat was conducted in physical/offline mode for all pending court cases as well as pre-litigation cases.

As many as 461 out of 573 cases amounting to Rs 4,18,90,028 were settled on Saturday during the National Lok Adalat. The cases included 25 pending before the court along with Motor accident claim cases.

As per the calendar of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), the Manipur State Legal Services Authority, in association with High Court Legal Services Committee and District Legal Services Authorities, organised the second National Lok Adalat for the year, 2022 on May 14, 2022 at various places across the state.

National Lok Adalat for Imphal East and West district was jointly organised by Manipur State Legal Services Authority in association with Imphal East and Imphal West District Legal Services Authorities at Lamphel Court Complex. National Lok Adalat was also held at Bishnupur, Thoubal, Ukhrul, Senapati, Churachandpur, Chandel, Tamenglong, Tengnoupal and Jiribam districts and in the High Court of Manipur.

For the National Lok Adalat in Imphal East and Imphal West district, five benches consisting of Judicial Officers and Advocates were constituted. The Lok Adalat was conducted in physical/offline mode for all pending court cases as well as pre-litigation cases. Cases relating to bank recovery, civil disputes, family matters (except divorce), insurance matters, domestic violence cases, BSNL bill cases, NI Act (cheque bouncing cases) were put up.

The High Court Legal Services Committee also organised National Lok Adalat at High Court of Manipur complex in which one Bench comprising of G Gaiphulshillu, Registrar General, High Court of Manipur; Yumkham Rother, Registrar (Judl.), High Court of Manipur; K Brajakumar Sharma, Joint Director, Manipur Judicial Academy was constituted.

For the National Lok Adalat held at High Court of Manipur, six civil cases were put up and out of which, one Civil Revision Petition case was settled with a total settlement amount of Rs 22.00 lakh.

During the previous National Lok Adalat held on March 12, 2022, out of 443 cases taken up all across the State, 271 cases were disposed of with settlement amount of Rs 2,93,87,729.

Justice Lanusungkum Jamir, Judge, High Court of Manipur and the Executive Chairman of Manipur State Legal Services Authority visited the National Lok Adalat held at Thoubal Court Complex for the districts of Thoubal and Kakching, and later at Lamphel Court Complex and interacted with the members of the Lok Adalat Bench as well as the parties.

Justice Jamir lauded the efforts of the legal service authorities and thanked the general public and litigants for the huge turnout despite heavy rainfalls across the state.

It is to be mentioned that it is the second National Lok Adalat for the year 2022 as per the Calendar prescribed by National Legal Services Authority. The next National Lok Adalat will be held on August 13, 2022.
