The district health society Tamenglong on Wednesday launched the first round of national deworming day at Christian Grammar school Tamenglong district under the theme, ‘Eliminate STH: Invest in the Healthier Future for Children.’
6 Assam Rifles Tamenglong battalion, commandant Colonel Aman Ahluwalia attended as chief guest, while child health Tamenglong district nodal officer Pantina Panmei, 6 Assam Rifles ARMO, District Health Society programme manager Khampu, ICDS Cell supervisor Ruth, Zonal Education Office representative Damchuilung, ASHAs members attended the launching programme.
On the occasion, commandant Colonel Aman Ahluwalia said that deworming is important for good health. He stressed on the importance of keeping the body clean, keeping the surroundings neat and tidy in order to be healthy.
He urged the health team to make sure everyone even in the remote, far-flung villages also get deworming tablets and keep themselves in good health.
Child Health nodal officer Pantina Panmei also spoke on the occasion and informed that deworming would be held twice in a year for children under the age group of 1-19.
“To stay healthy, children must be dewormed as part of education. Bad worms in the intestine suck the nutrition. If parasitic worms are not killed, then children start falling sick and it will disturb their studies,” she said.
She also urged all the students to wash their hands properly before taking food. “If you cook food, wash the vegetables properly and keep your nails short too,” she added.
