The Manipur State Power Companies (MSPCL and MSPDCL) Employees’ Association (MSPCEA) has strongly condemned the alleged assault on one of their staff at Bamon Leikai Thangjam Leirak in IMphal East by an unidentified person while performing emergency maintenance work of 11 KV Bamon Leikai Feeder.

During a press conference held at Keishampat Power House on Saturday, MSPCEA general secretary Soram Sunnyboy said that the MSPCL and MSPDCL come under essential services and that they are delivering the service with limited resources and manpower. But unfortunately, their employees are sometimes assaulted by mischievous persons while going for maintenance work that makes them feel unsafe, he asserted.

Soram further said that one of their staff, Ph Shantaram Sharma, was allegedly assaulted on March 24 while performing emergency maintenance work at around 8 pm at Bamon Leikai Thangjam Leirak by an unidentified person. The victim reported that the culprit beat him up without giving any reason and that he sustained major injuries on his eyes.

Such kind of untoward incident directly demoralises the employees of their department working day and night, he said, while appealing authorities concerned to take up stringent action against those culprits involved in the cases so that it does not happen in the future.

The victim, Ph Shantaram, said he, along with five other staff, went for emergency maintenance work in the above-mentioned site. While fixing the HD line, a group of people started criticising them with harsh words for making them wait for a while. "As a response to their rough behaviour, I said that they all are drunk. Just after saying those words, one unidentified person forcefully punched me without giving any reason,” he narrated while condemning the incident.
