Moreh town celebrates Draupadi Murmu’s victory

All the leaders of different communities living in the border town gathered at the office complex of the Hill Tribal Council (HTC) Moreh and celebrated the achievement of Murmu who became the first tribal women President of India.

The border town Moreh which is located in Manipur's Tengnoupal district celebrated in joy as Droupadi Murmu became the first tribal women to hold the top position in India.

All the leaders of different communities living in the border town gathered at the office complex of the Hill Tribal Council (HTC) Moreh and celebrated the achievement of Murmu.

The celebration was led by the former member of ADC Chandel and currently in charge of the Moreh Small Town Committee Cecilia Chinneivah Haokip.

Members and leaders of Hill Tribal Council, Kuki Khanglai Lawmpi, Meitei Council Moreh, All Community Development Organisation Moreh, Manipuri Muslim Council Moreh, Gorkha Samaj Seva Samiti, Tamil Sangam Moreh, Kuki Women Union for Human Rights (KWU and HR) and women organisations of different communities joined the celebration. Former chairman of ADC Chandel Lhukhosei Zou also joined the celebration.

Holding festoons, banner and posters of Draupadi Murmu with cheering and chanting of congratulatory slogans to Murmu marked the occasion

Speaking to the media, former member of ADC Chandel and current convenor in charge of Mor eh town committee Cecilia Chinneivah Haokip said that the people of Moreh are happy and delighted as a tribal woman is elected to the highest post of the largest democratic country.

Expressing her happiness, Chinneivah Haokip said, “I express gratitude to Prime Minister Modi, MPs and MLAs of the country for electing Draupadi Murmu as the president of this great country, India.”

“We the public of Indo-Myanmar border town Moreh, wish Draupadi Murmu all the best!” Cecilia added.

Meanwhile, a rally, in celebration of the election of Droupadi Murmu as the 15th President of India, was also held at Churachandpur led by the local MLA LM Khaute.

The rally started from the MLA’s residence at Thangzam Road and went via Tipaimukh Road, IB road, Red Cross road and returned to the MLA’s residence where a formal function was held.

On the occasion, the MLA said that the citizens of Churachandpur, particularly Churachandpur AC, had organised the rally to express their congratulations to the newly elected President of India, who is from the tribal community, as they are overwhelmed with joy. At the same time, we also want to thank PM Modi for nominating a tribal woman as Presidential candidate and who eventually won.

On behalf of the people of Churachandpur, which is a tribal district, and, for the citizens of Churachandpur AC, I congratulate Smt Droupadi Murmu, the MLA said.
 

The MLA also recalled the accomplishments of the new and 1st tribal woman President of India as a government servant, a state legislator, a Governor, and others such as President of BJP's Schedule Tribe Morcha (2006-'09), Minister (2000-'04) in the then Orissa state.

She was adjudged the best legislator in 2007 and even served as Governor of Jharkhand State 2015-'21) before she was elected President of India, MLA Khaute recalled.
