A joint team destroyed at least 0.5 hectares of poppy field at Longpi Kuki village, Nungba Sub-Division under Noney district on Friday.
The drive was carried out under the supervision of DFO Noney Division Napoleon Rongmei in collaboration with Manipur Police, Assam Riffles, RNSOM and Nungba CSOs.
Drone surveys were also conducted at the poppy fields. Nungba SDO Namlalung Gangmei, Rongmei Naga Student's Organisation Manipur (RNSOM) president Daichui Gangmei and Nungba Police OC were among the drive teams.

One poppy cultivator identified as Boied Gangte, 30, from Longpi village was handed over Nungba Police Station where an FIR was registered.
Speaking to the media, Noney forest officer Nepolean Rongmei said that search and survey drive of Poppy plantations will continue in the coming days under Noney district. Any poppy plantations found during the drive will be destroyed, he announced.
He also urged all to continue to work together with the government and eradicate the Poppy plantations and help create a drugs-free state. He cautioned that the legal action will be taken up against anyone found involved in illegal poppy plantations in the district.
Earlier, on January 9, a security team destroyed four hectares of poppy field at T Khongmol Kuki village, Nungba Sub Division, Noney district.
A joint team of Manipur Police led by additional SP Noney Sangboi Gangte, OC Nungba Police station, Nilamani Singh, RO Nungba Forest Oinam Pamheiba, OC 39 Assam Rifles Nungba Outpost Shimray and Rongmei Naga Students' Organization Manipur (RNSOM) president Daichui.
“We destroyed at least 4 hectares of poppy plantations on Monday at T Khongmol, Longpi Circle under Nungba Police Station in collaboration with different Government agencies including RNSOM,” said OC Nungba Police Station Nilamani Singh.
