More inmates in relief camps take up livelihood activities

Products produced by inmates of relief camp at Urup OBC Girls Hostel launched.

As livelihood activities are being encouraged to help generate income and empower the internally displaced people staying in relief camps, inmates of relief camp at Urup OBC Girls Hostel in Imphal East have produced several items for sale. The products were launched on Wednesday by State Mission Director, Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MSRLM), N Bandana Devi, and Deputy Commissioner, Imphal East, Khumanthem Diana Devi.

The products launched included phenyl, dish wash and detergent powder at nominal prices. They will be made available for sale at the state office, Loklaobung, official sources said.

The launching programme was organised by Keirao Women Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd and promoted by the Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MSRLM) under the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Government of Manipur.

While addressing the gathering, the deputy commissioner, Imphal East, said that the launch of today’s programme is one of the initiatives of the Government for financial self-reliance and for generating income for their livelihood.

Director, MSRLM, N Bandana interacted with the inmates and encouraged them to set up Self Help groups to indulge themselves in the income generating work and assured that all possible assistance will be given to revive their livelihood. 

She stated that through effective communication and community engagement strategies, Cluster Level Federation (CLF) successfully conveyed the benefits of participating in the income generating Initiatives to the camp inmates. They organized awareness sessions and interactive discussions, emphasizing the significance of economic empowerment and the potential for personal growth that these activities offered.

It may be noted that MSRLM has presently mobilised more than 80,345 women into forming 7776 Self Help Groups (SHGs) and SHGs have federated into 414 Village Level Federation (VLF), and 12 Cluster Level Federation having membership of 175 VLFs and 1928 SHGs under it. 

With the initiative of MSRLM, Cluster level Federation of Keirao supported 152 inmates of the relief camp from Churachandpur and Moreh at Urup OBC Girls Hostel for Short -Term Livelihood activities.
