More arms recovered from Bishnupur, Kangpokpi

A total of 11 arms and 78 ammunitions were recovered during the search operations conducted in Bishnupur and Kangpokpi districts: Manipur Police.

As the country celebrated 77th Independence Day 2023 on Tuesday, August 15, the situation in Manipur remained tense with sporadic incidents of firing and protests. More arms and ammunitions were also recovered, police sources said.

While the Manipur Police marked the Independence Day celebration with a motorcycle rally, with the theme "Nation First, Always First", from Khuman Lampak Stadium city to Imphal Airport and culminated at Ima Keithel, search operations were conducted in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Bishnupur and Kangpokpi districts.

According to the Manipur Police Control Room, 11 arms and 78 ammunitions were recovered during the search operations conducted in Bishnupur and Kangpokpi districts.

Intermittent firing by unknown armed miscreants was also reported in the adjoining hills near Bethel, Haraothel and Koutruk villages on Monday-Tuesday. Security forces retaliated the firing and repelled the miscreants, the police said.

The police further mentioned that a total of 124 checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and as many as 1,289 persons were detained in connection with violations in different districts of the state till date.

Movement of vehicles on National Highway-37 and National Highway-2 with essential items have been ensured, the police maintained.

It said strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.

Appealing to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos, the control room mentioned in its press note that any circulation of unfounded videos etc may be confirmed from the rumour free number 9233522822 of Central Control room.

It also made an appeal to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
