Molestation Case: WAD condemns crime against girl student in Imphal West

WAD accuses authorities concerned of failure in safeguarding society against sexual offences and crimes.

The Women Action for Development (WAD) on Thursday condemned the unfortunate and shameful incident in which a 43-year-old man molested a young girl at Keishampat Thiyam Leikai in Imphal West on October 4.

In a release, WAD stated that “the incident occurred due to the failure of the authorities to protect and safeguard the future generations of society.”

WAD is highly concerned about the girls who go out of their homes for their studies, it added. It also highlighted the importance of reforming the structural formation of society in order to prevent such crimes against women and girls.

It extended acknowledgment to the people who have supported the victim throughout her tough times, especially those who played major roles in bringing justice. It also appealed to the state government to establish dedicated facilities to protect young students from such unwanted incidents.
