The Opposition alliance INDIA Bloc on Wednesday lambasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi “for posing as the saviour of Manipur to garner votes in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.”

“We condemn his illegitimate claim of timely intervening in the Manipur violence to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur,” the Bloc stated.

Speaking to the media at Congress Bhavan, Imphal, state convenor of the bloc Ksh Santa condemned the BJP’s alleged dissent campaign to mar the image of the opposition alliance candidate Akoijam Bimol.

“Recently, the authorities put a halt on the campaign activities of Bimol Akoijam. Halting the campaign violates the election code of conduct,” he said.

He stated that the alliance did not take the threats and intimidation against the candidate lightly and questioned if the BJP were intentionally striving to sabotage the campaign of the opposition candidate.

“We will file complaints against such actions to the election commission,” he added.

He stated that using muscle and money power to bend the voters defiled the principles of democracy. He alleged that the BJP were campaigning with a forked tongue by making false promises to garner votes in the upcoming elections.

“While they are indecisive on the implementation of NRC in Manipur, claiming that Narendra Modi ended the violence and ushered peace is an insult to the countless sufferings of the people,” he said.

Meanwhile, All India Trinamool Congress state spokesman Mutum Inaocha alleged that Modi was intentionally using the divide-and-rule policy to uproot democratic principles from the country.

“The BJP’s hidden agenda to dismantle Manipur and covertly access the state’s resources,” he said.
He further condemned the BJP’s biased security reasoning allowing large gatherings for Amit Shah’s visit while halting another candidate’s public meeting.

“We may also boycott Amit Shah’s visit if the state authorities continue such tactics,” he said.
