An irate mob set fire to two freight trucks of BRTF carrying construction materials at Kakching khunou Umathel under Waikhong Police Station in Kakching district, Manipur on Thursday around 9.30 am.
As per sources, the construction was meant to be used for construction of a bridge over Serou river. The trucks were intercepted by womenfolk during a usual checking and frisking of vehicles along Sugnu stretch of Indo-Myanmar Road.
The locals escorted the two trucks to Thongam Nungphou and set them on fire. However, a crane was rescued by a police team. While the drivers were detained and handed over to the police.
The drivers were identified as Sohan Lal, 38, son Chothu Ram Jokhar of Rajasthan, Sawra Oraon, 39, son of Somra Urao, Sirango Malsiring of Ranchi and Farukh Ansari, 33, son of Nur Mohammad Ansari, of Jharkhand.
