The Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation Women Wing (MMWO) has condemned the alleged threats and acts of violence against women and sought the government's attention to address the issue to prevent untoward incidents in the future.
Speaking to the media at a press meet held on Thursday at MMWO office located at Hatta, Imphal East, MMWO Women Wing convenor Singamayum Roji Sujani alleged that five women were beaten up and threatened with abusive remarks by some unknown persons at Uripok Taorembam Leikai, Imphal West district.
The women were surrounded by 10 men when they were collecting waste bottles at a house in Uripok Taorembam Leikai on Wednesday, after taking permission of the house owner, Sujani said, adding that they were asked irrelevant questions. The men also accused the women of theft and being kidnappers, Sujani alleged.
The MMWO women wing convenor appealed to the people to refrain from such condemnable acts towards Meitei Pangal community and urged the state government to look into the matter to prevent any untoward incident.
A victim of the incident told the media that they went inside the gate of a house with permission of the house owner. But, 10 men came and surrounded them and beat them up with charging them as kidnappers and asked them how much money they took from the Kuki, she alleged.
