Chingai assembly constituency MLA Khashim Vashum extended relief items to Landang village which was declared as ‘containment area’ on September 21 by the district magistrate of Ukhrul.
“Since the village has been completely sealed and barred entry and exit of the populace from the containment area, the people of Langdang are going through a hard time. Thus, we are extending some help on humanitarian grounds,” said Khashim to this IFP correspondent.
Essential items including rice, dal, sugar, salt and potatoes were delivered to the villagers by chairman of Ato Longphang, Dearson Chamroy, working president of NPF, Chingai assembly constituency, Shangreingam Vashum along with NPF workers of the assembly constituency. Dearson appealed to the villagers to take appropriate measures to contain the spread of COVID-19. He also said that as a token of love and concern, the MLA had entrusted them to deliver the essential items during this crucial time.
Member of Langdang Village Authority, Honyopam Luithui on behalf of the villagers expressed gratitude and appreciation to Khashim for his kind gesture and generosity during the hard time. He also appealed to continue support and concern even in the days to come.
It may be mentioned that Landang village is situated about 9 kilometres from Ukhrul district headquarter and has 207 households with a total population of 1,135 people as per 2011 census. On September 19, three persons from the village were tested COVID-19 positive.
Accordingly, the Ukhrul district surveillance officer carried out Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) on September 25 and out of 89 tests, the test results of 12 persons were found as COVID-19 positive. Dr Thotreichon J had informed that more tests would be carried out after a gap of five days.
