Mizoram: Over 700 kg of Manipur-bound explosives seized in Aizawl, two arrested

As many as 28 cartons of True Blast slurry explosive, each weighing 25 kilograms, along with four cartons of detonator caps, totalling 750 kilograms in weight, were discovered by authorities, sources said.

In an alarming incident, over 700 kilograms of explosives on their way to the conflict-ridden state of Manipur were seized by security forces at Sairang, Aizawl district, Mizoram.

The seizure was made in a joint operation involving police personnel from Sairang in Mizoram and Assam Rifles personnel, as per sources.

The vehicles carrying the explosives were intercepted on Sairang Road, traveling from Lengpui to Aizawl, with the intention of transporting the explosives to Manipur via Tipaimukh.

As many as 28 cartons of True Blast slurry explosive, each weighing 25 kilograms, along with four cartons of detonator caps, totalling 750 kilograms in weight, were discovered by authorities, sources said.

The interception reportedly occurred at three strategically positioned mobile vehicle check posts, supported by a central team.

Additionally, two individuals, Lalrokima, 34, and Sangliana, 25, both residents of Aizawl in Mizoram, were apprehended along with two vehicles.

The recovered war-like stores were handed over to the Mizoram police for further legal proceedings.
It may be recalled that security forces recovered two IED bombs from one individual on March 7 in Moreh. The IED bombs were seized by a team of 5th Assam rifles while carrying out frisking and checking at Chikkim village till Bypass Road near Moreh college along NH 102 Imphal Moreh Road which is 3 km away from Moreh Police station.

The team had stopped a suspicious looking man for checking and found the two IEDs in his bag and also recovered a battery which will be used in exploding the bombs. The arrested person had been identified as Sholen Haokip alias Lelin ,40, son of Helmang Haokip of Moreh Mission Veng.

Earlier, troopers of the Assam Rifles had also recovered and seized as many as 3,000 rounds of sniper rifle ammunition in Mizoram.

Assam Rifles personnel announced the recovery of 3000 rounds of cartridges for a sniper rifle and 10 Passive Night Sight (PNS) devices in Lawngtlai district of Mizoram, as per a statement issued on March 7.

Acting on intelligence inputs, Assam Rifles troops had intercepted a vehicle at the Sanagu market area. During the operation, they recovered the sniper rifle ammunition along with the PNS devices.
