Manipur Awang Chingkhei Kanba Club Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (MAKCMAL) on Monday asserted that Kuki bodies kept in the morgues would be allowed for transport to their respective locations only after a proper exchange with missing and lifeless bodies of the Meiteis.

MAKCMAL highlighted that the bodies of five Meitei individuals were currently kept at the morgue in Churachandpur Hospital and 27 Meitei individuals have gone missing since the start of the crisis.

The body maintained that the 25 and 28 lifeless bodies of Kuki individuals kept at JNIMS and RIMS hospital respectively could only be taken out in exchange with the missing and lifeless bodies of Meiteis.

MAKCMAL warned of intense reactions from the people if authorities tried to take out the bodies in Imphal forcefully.

Speaking to the media at Tharo devi Community Hall, Imphal, MAKCMAL spokesperson Konsam Victor Pamuba stated that the people would not cause any disruption in transporting the bodies of Kuki individuals from Imphal only if they are exchanged with the missing and lifeless Meitei bodies.

“We honour the dead of both communities but the people will not accept actions which come off as biased to one community; it must be equal for both communities,” he said.

He cautioned that the medical director would be held accountable if the Kuki bodies were given away without the people’s approval.

He further questioned if the law and order were only meant for the valley and added that since the start of the crisis, numerous lawful actions had been meted out against individuals in the valley, while it is wild games for everybody in the hills.

“Two buses carrying RAF personnel were torched by suspected Kuki miscreants in Kangpokpi but the nine accused involved in the arson were freed, on top of that the two torched buses have now gone missing,” he said.

He demanded the authorities to equally implement the rule of law in each and every corner of Manipur and cautioned that the people would ultimately turn against the government if such biased measures continued to mount up.
