Minor Rape Case 2018: Accused convicted

A 26-year-old man charged with committing sexual assault on a minor in 2018 was convicted on Tuesday.

The Special Judge of Fast Track Special Court (POCSO) No.1 Imphal West, Salam Imocha Singh, on Tuesday announced the conviction of a 26-year-old man under POCSO Act for committing sexual assault on a minor in 2018.

The convict, Pangambam Johnson (26), son of Pangambam Dilip of Nongbrang Leikai, Yairipok, Thoubal district was framed charge under section 4 of POCSO Act for sexual assault on a 17-year-old girl by a Special Court (POCSO), Bishnupur. Later, the case was transferred to the Special Judge, Fast Track Court in 2020.

The incident happened on February 2, 2018 when the convict sexually assaulted the girl who was returning home after attending Heijingpot of a local sister. Reportedly, the victim met the convict while he was standing near the Tata Dipper vehicle which he drove.

The complaint was lodged on February 3, 2018 at Bishnupur women PS and a case registered under section 4 of POCSO Act against the convict.

The court stated that the prosecution has successfully proved and established beyond reasonable doubt that the accused sexually assaulted the victim and thereby committed the charge under section 4 of POCSO Act, 2012. Hence the court convicted the accused for offence of section 4 POCSO Act.
