Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Minister Khashim Vashum inaugurated Raphei Katamnao Long’s platinum jubilee in the presence of deputy commissioner Ukhrul Kengoo Zuringla and ADC/ADM, Ukhrul HL Jain on Wednesday.
At the occasion, Minister Khashim Vashum asserted that the Raphei Katamnao Long is celebrating the event today because of the elders. “Let us not waste the significance of this historic event,” Khashim emphasised.
He also urged the womenfolk to rise and shine, stating that women in other parts of the world are also rising.
To encourage students from poor families and orphans to get quality education, he assured to bear the admission fees of 50 students, especially from Raphei area (northern area) to get admitted at Scholar Pashimi High School, Ukhrul and contact the principal for the same at the earliest.
1st Chairman, RKL Sk Ivis, son of Lt S Pardew, unveiled the monolith while Luckyson N Kashung, and former president RKL PR Machung unveiled and released the Local Organising Committee (LOC) monolith and souvenir respectively.
Late in the night, secretary general, Asia Indigenous People’s Pact (AIPP) Gam A Shimray deliberated on the RKL theme, ‘Celebrating the past, ensuring the present and envisioning the past.’
In his welcome address, RKL president Somipam Wungrai Vashum acknowledged the vital role played by the pioneers and elders of RKL.
Altogether, 36 units are participating in the ongoing event. The RKL units also fondly remembered and revisited its founding members at the event.
